Atletico Madrid have
confirmed they will petition the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after
FIFA rejected their appeal against a transfer ban.
Both Atletico and
Real Madrid were suspended from signing players for two full transfer windows
after they were charged with breaching FIFA regulations relating to the
protection and transfer of minors.
The clubs delayed the
punishment by appealing the decision, but the governing body's Appeals
Committee has upheld the decision, meaning they will be unable to bring in any
players until 2018.
Real confirmed
shortly after the decision was announced that they will turn to CAS to try and
have the ban overturned, and Atletico have followed suit.
The Rojiblancos say
they were anticipating FIFA's rejection of the appeal and have been preparing
for months for the next step.
"Our club does
not agree with the ruling," a statement read. "So we have decided to
appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
"Anticipating
that FIFA could ratify this ban, the club hired months ago a team of
international experts to defend the case and protect the rights of Atletico de
Madrid.
"Our
organization wishes to express that one hundred percent of the licenses of our players
that are part of this investigation and are still in the club, have been
regularised by FIFA, receiving the authorization from the subcommittee in order
to process their licenses and compete in their different categories."
