More than 2,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Edo
state on Sunday, September 25, have reportedly burnt their cards and brooms
which is the symbol of their party, to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
in Ward 5 Esan North East of the state. It would be recalled that the ruling
party has been emnbroiled in leadership tussle as several factions have emerged
within the party ranks. Over the weekend the crisis escalated with the national
leader of party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the removal of APC’s national
chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, over what he called the latter’s
anti-democratic handling of the party
affairs. Tinubu accused Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo
state by sending the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) against the decision of the appeal panel that
demanded for a fresh governorship primary election in the party for the
forthcoming governorship election in the state.
