Senator Dumps PDP For APC

Mr. Joshua Dariye, A former governor of Plateau State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dariye, who represents the Plateau Central senatorial zone, was said to have announced his defection on the floor of the Senate on Thursday 22nd October 2016.

The senator, who served as the  Plateau State governor from 1999 to 2007 under the PDP, was first elected to the Senate in 2007 under the Labour Party.

In 2015, he left the LP for the PDP and contested under the umbrella of the then ruling PDP.

In 2004, Dariye was temporally relieved of his position as the governor when a six-month state of emergency   was imposed on the state by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. A sole administrator was appointed to run the affairs of the state.

Though he was reinstated  in 2007, he was impeached from office by six of a 24-member House of Assembly. But the Supreme Court nullified his impeachment.

The former governor has been having a running battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which accused him of defrauding the state as a governor.
