Some ex-militants invaded the Bureau for Niger Delta Affairs in Imo state on Thursday, August 25, vandalizing valuables in the building. The men, who were armed with weapons, reportedly stormed the office, shooting into the air, before destroying all the window louvers of the building and other valuables worth millions of naira. They were about 17 in number and allegedly led by one Bobby Chukwuka, The Punch reports.

According to Chukwuka, they vandalised the building because they were denied transport fare from the largesse released by the national coordinator of the amnesty programme, Brigadier General Paul Boro, when he visited the state days ago. He added that the attitude of the special adviser to the governor on Bureau for Niger Delta Affairs, Justus Ojika, who refused to see them fuelled their anger. “By that stupid act, my boys became angrier and vandalised the office,” the leader of the ex-militants said. Ojika confirmed the incident, but said Boro did not give any transport fare as alleged by the ex-militants. The destruction comes a few days after Boro visited the state.
