Meet This Corp Member Turned Farmer, His Reasons For Been A Farmer Would Make You...

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Ebonyi State, Mr Godshield Kanjal, has implemented the one-man-one-hectre agriculture programme initiated by Governor David Umahi. He said he took to farming to boost food production and wealth creation in the state and country at large.

Kanjal, noted that agriculture has become the lifeline for the nation at this period of dwindling oil revenue. He said he keyed into the farming initiative for the period of his one-year compulsory service to fatherland.

The corps member advised young graduates to shift their thinking from seeking unavailable white-collar jobs, insisting that graduates instead, should venture into entrepreneurship by acquiring skills related to agriculture. He further pleaded with the government to empower out-going corps members with ‘take-home-grant’ to enable them to be self reliant after service.

He said the high cost of rice in local market was part of the reason he took to rice farming. “I decided to key into the programme because it was promising, especially looking at the skyrocketing price of rice in the market. My three-hectre rice farming is blossoming and would be harvested by December,” he stated.
