Cyber security experts harp on protection of IT infrastructure



Cyber Security Experts, weekend, took into consideration, reasons government and organisations should protect their communication infrastructure. Some of the experts, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Facebook, Mr. Alex Stamos; President, Information Security Society of Africa-Nigeria (ISAAN) Dr. David Isiavwe, among others said that organisations, boards and CEOs need to be proactive in dealing with cyber crime. They said this at the just concluded 2016 CyberXchange Conference, held in Lagos, which centred around topics such as Business continuity management and critical infrastructure protection; Innovating digital security for financial institutions; Cybersecurity for oil and gas industry; Secure coding; Proactive application development,; Threat exchange; and others. They pointed out that the conference was strategically aimed at updating information security professionals on the essential security trends that will enhance protection for company and client’s most valuable assets, even as it would further the global drive for improved cyber security. Meanwhile, information security experts from 50 countries were represented to address critical cyber security concerns in Africa. The experts commended hackathon that brought talented students together to design prototypes and build community with others who share a passion for cyber security. According to them, “It was inspiring to see the energy at CyberXchange focused on developing security talent and finding solutions to security problems that companies and governments face.” The two-day conference, featured keynotes sessions, exhibitions and workshops. These features examined current cyber security trends and practical solutions. Some of the highlights includes: practical ready-to-use training for IT security professionals and a Master-class for chief executives to get a handle on cyber security at their organisations. As well as a Facebook-sponsored CyberXchange Hackathon session, this aimed at developing the capacity of budding information security professionals. The winning team went home with a cash prize of N700, 000.
