The
Chairman, House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Hon Ossai Nicholas Ossai,
has stated that the house will not take likely the allegations of budget
padding levelled against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and three other principal
officers.
According to a report, Ossai said his committee
would definitely probe the allegations raised by suspended lawmaker,
Abdulmumuni Jibrin but that would not happen untill the 180 days suspension slammed
on Hon Abdulmumuni Jibrin lapses.
Ossai who spoke with newsmen Tuesday in Abuja, said “when Jibrin resumes from his 180 days
suspension, a motion on his allegations would be raised on the floor and
referred to his committee, and action for investigation”.

Ossai however disagreed with some
analysts that the suspension on Jibrin was too harsh, stressing that the action was
taken within the ambits of the House rules, Code of Conduct for Members, Powers
and Privileges Act as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.
The Delta lawmaker denied claims that
the matter was a subject of litigation as his committee was not served any
court order and could not have acted based on speculations.
