Heavy-armed police officers have reportedly
sealed off the residence of former Governor of Kano state, the incumbent
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Naij.com reports that the said house is located at Lugard Road, a few
minutes-drive away from the Kano government house.
Also, Kwankwaso’s
lodge road residence, which serves as the headquarters of Kwankwasiyya movement,
was sealed up over supposed plan by the ex-governor to conduct mass wedding.
The police public relations officer Magaji Majia, confirming the development,
said: “We have directed our men to seal the residence, following an intelligent
report that there is plan to conduct mass wedding at the house. “Police did not
issue permit for any mass wedding at the residence.”
Meanwhile, a
Kwankwasiyya Movement insider told the Punch reporter that “the mass wedding
was conducted on Monday secretly, with only the bride and groom and next of kin
in attendance, including some selected Islamic scholars”. Kwankwaso was elected
as the governor of the northern Nigerian state of Kano between 1999 and 2003,
under the flag of the People’s Democratic Party. In 2015 he was among five PDP
governors who defected to the All Progressives Congress. Later Kwankwaso
contested the APC presidential primaries but lost to Muhammadu Buhari.
