Staff Of EEDC Electrocuted In Nsukka


The university town of Nsukka was yesterday thrown into morning when a staff of Enugu State Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)  attached to Nsukka metropolis was electrocuted while trying to relocate high tension live wire to pave way for the on- going road construction in the area.

Vanguard reports that the EEDC  staff was alone on official duty at Total filling station round-about, dislodging live wires for the expansion of the road reconstrction when suddenly, power came live to the wires and hooked him up while on the pole.

The EEDC staff whose name was given as Patrick was said to have climbed the pole without a safety helmet, working on the wires when power came live and fell on his head, pulled him for about 30 minutes while sympathizers were shouting for help without response as the man  dangled on the high tension pole between life and death around 10am.

Accirding to an eyewitness account, the deceased was said to be an attachee staff of Zeroth Nig. Ltd handling pole extension from Opi junction to Ikenga juction due to the ongoing road reconstruction in Nsukka metropolis and its environs. The deceased staff had his safely belt tight to his waist which made it impossible for willing sympathisers to rescue him from the pole while others stayed few meters away shouting on top of their voices and willling for help.
