The
university town of Nsukka was yesterday thrown into morning when a staff of Enugu
State Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)
attached to Nsukka metropolis was electrocuted while
trying to relocate high tension live wire to pave way for the on- going road
construction in the area.
Vanguard
reports that the EEDC staff was alone on
official duty at Total filling station round-about, dislodging live wires for
the expansion of the road reconstrction when suddenly, power came live to the
wires and hooked him up while on the pole.
The
EEDC staff whose name was given as Patrick was said to have climbed the pole
without a safety helmet, working on the wires when power came live and fell on
his head, pulled him for about 30 minutes while sympathizers were shouting for
help without response as the man dangled
on the high tension pole between life and death around 10am.
Accirding
to an eyewitness account, the deceased was said to be an attachee staff of
Zeroth Nig. Ltd handling pole extension from Opi junction to Ikenga juction due
to the ongoing road reconstruction in Nsukka metropolis and its environs. The
deceased staff had his safely belt tight to his waist which made it impossible
for willing sympathisers to rescue him from the pole while others stayed few
meters away shouting on top of their voices and willling for help.
